How It Works

Top speed is limited by air resistance, which increases with the cube of speed. Doubling your speed requires 8x the power to overcome drag. The drag coefficient (Cd) ranges from 0.22 for sleek EVs to 0.45+ for boxy SUVs. Most production cars are electronically limited to 130-155 MPH. This calculator gives theoretical maximum based purely on physics — real top speed is also limited by gearing, tire speed rating, and electronic limiters.
