How It Works

Plan to refuel at 75-85% tank usage — never push to empty, especially in rural areas where stations can be 50+ miles apart. Highway MPG is typically better than city, but headwinds, mountains, and speed over 65 MPH reduce efficiency. Budget 15-20% extra fuel cost for mountain passes and detours. Gas tends to be cheaper at stations near highway exits in competitive areas, and more expensive in remote locations.
